September 09, 2018 0

John Bartram Born in March 23 of 1699 known for being an early American botanist, horticulturist and explorer. He sold plants to George Washington and John Adams, and today, Bartram's Garden is the oldest surviving botanic garden.

The Garden is located on the west bank of  Schuylkill River and its been a National Historic Landmark since 1960. Bartram's Garden celebrate many special events like weddings, mothers festivities and much more.

Honestly I did not like driving down there but the ride was worth it. It is a small garden and arboretum compared with others but it beauty its singular. The map it is easy to to follow and the travel do not take more than one hour.

The garden have picnic areas and you can rent a Pavilion. The places it´s also opened on winter where you can bring your kids for sledding in the snow. For bird watchers and photographers you can find  many species of migratory birds; and one of the most recent activities of the garden it´s sailing the schuykill River from the Bartram´s dock.

The garden admission is free and for more information you can visit the official web site. https://bartramsgarden.org/

The Historic Germantown

September 05, 2018 0

In the American Revolutionary war, the British wanted Philadelphia, that’s why they started the Philadelphia Campaign. One of the battles to take control of the city; where the Second Continental Congress was located, was the Battle of Germantown.
The battle was fought on October 4, 1777, at Germantown Pennsylvania. The George Washington failed because of the inclement weather. A heavy fog caused a great deal of confusion among the approaching Americans. As the result, the British army took the capital of Philadelphia.
In Philadelphia we still having some historic treasures to visit, and one of these is the Historic Germantown. A year ago I visited Germantown and took some pictures for my Flickr. That way I passed to know the interesting history of this place. For more information you can go to the website: http://www.freedomsbackyard.com/
Germantown is a long avenue and from my point of few, is not a place you want to discover at the first time. The streets are dirty and you feel you are getting in to the ghetto. The first time I went to Germantown, I did it by myself. I did not have any expectation of finding something great. As soon as I started investigating and photographing I felt delighted and spent the next 3 hours photographing around.

The best way to start traveling is in your own city

September 05, 2018 0

Some people waste their money or time, going out of the city to try some new adventures, ignoring for complete the extraordinary gems they can find in the place where they live. I do not want to be misunderstood, going everywhere and discovering new places is really extraordinary, I do it all by myself; but some people do not give the importance of knowing their own city. I find a lot of people that raised and born on Philadelphia and they don’t know the half of what I know about the city. Me, that I just came here 4 years ago and I can tell everybody most of the hidden places in the city. Something that I like to know is about the history of any place. It is just extraordinary know, how the ancestors lived and went through for so many situations we can not imagine. I am a photographer and all the time I feel pleased of meeting new historic places and taking photos and sharing the history around the internet. That is what I want to do in this blog, reach the people to make them know that they don’t need to go so far to meet interesting places.
