Jenkins Arboretum

What an arboretum is? For people that does not know what an arboretum could be, is a tree collection. When you think about a garden, you think about flowers and plants but when you think about arboretums you should think in trees and a lot of trees.

Since I started living in the United States I have visited some arboretums and gardens very important in the region, some of them with a great history.

My last vacations I visited Jenkins arboretum and I enjoyed it since the moment I joined into the parking lot. I had the sensation that I was getting into a forest, feeling in touch with the nature.

Jenkins arboretum its named after its first owners, H. Lawrence Jenkins and Elisabeth Phillippe Jenkins, given to them as a wedding gift in 1928 by Mr. Jenkins father.

Later it become in an arboretum and garden and in a living memorial to his wife, and then, a public park and arboretum for scientific and educational purposes.

The admission of the arboretum is free, also you can find a plant shop near the visitor center. Its a small arboretum compared to others, since the tour can last up to half an hour. Its opened everyday from 8:00am and I bet is a great place for kids.
