Bryn Athyn Cathedral

October 27, 2018 0

Montgomery County is full of History and nice places to visit. During my vacations, was one of the county I visited, enjoying the architecture, countryside and variety of restaurants that the county have to offer.

I am such a fan of the gothic architecture and after a long research in internet, trying to find a interesting place to discover, I fell in love at first sight of Bryn Athyn Cathedral. I have no doubt that I had to visit it, so my next day, woke up early and went there with my camera. The place is impressive since the moment you cross the gates, all the details of the cathedral are beautiful. Doors, doors locks, roofs, the garden and the halls, a great pleasure for our eyes.

The big question is, what’s the history behind this cathedral? Bryn Athyn Cathedral, is the Episcopal seat of the general church of New Jerusalem, constructed from 1913 to 1928. I did not get much historical information on internet. All we can know is, it was constructed by unusual methods by the 20 century. It was constructed in gothic style while architecture in surrounded region was romanesque style complex.

The Cathedral, it’s dedicated until today to its preservation, being listed as a National Historic Landmark since October 7, 2008. The congregation still offering religious services.

Earl's New American

October 21, 2018 0

My vacations started, and for me, is a week of fine dinning, hiking and historic sites. I started the weekend going to a restaurant that I wanted to go long time ago. After a walk in  my second visit at Peddler's Village I finally went to Earl's New American.

First thing I look in a restaurant is the decoration (Honestly, fan of Ranch style décor) and at my first step inside the restaurant I felt satisfy with the environment, and the way the place looked. Not small, spotless, well illuminated (I am sorry but I don't like that kind of places where I can't even read the menu) and sophisticated decoration.

The restaurant seemed pretty busy, I thought the service would take a little of time but by my surprise, it was fast enough. I liked the fact that the waiter had ready a jar of water to serve on my glass before asking if I wanted some water.

After a while, looking at the menu I decided for the specialty of the day, crab soup. It came with a cracker that I immediately dipped in the soup. I have to say that the soup was really good, the only thing that I can complain about is, the portion was too small. I had to order an extra French fries for my stomach. I am gonna write a letter to all restaurants, if you have French fries in the menu; Please! give us cheese fries as an option. Some of us prefer cheese than ketchup in the fries.  For my taste, them fries were not my fries, nothing personal I am used to be very picky with my fries, I do not like anyone's fries.

Concluding with my review, do I recommend the restaurant? Yes. Would I visit again the restaurant? Yes.  Honestly I would love to comeback and try the BBQ pulled pork. So, hasta luego Earl´s New American!

Washington Crossing HIstoric Park first section

October 13, 2018 0

If you like history, You will be interested in visiting Washington Crossing Historic Park, located where the real crossing on the night of December 25-26 happened.

Who knows the history, know that the Washington Crossing of the Delaware River was the first surprise attack from the americans trying to get the independice. They went to fight with the Hessians, who were fighting, hired by the british army.

The park is compound of two sections, New Jersey and Pennsylvania sections. Also the Pennsylvania section is divided in two. First section: Mc Conkey's Section
        Second Section: Thompson Neely Section

Today's Post is dedicated to Mc Conkey's Section, where you can find the Visitor center and a lot of acres with picnic area.

My first step was going to the Visitor Center, where I took the map to make my travel to the park. I have to accept that I am not very well with maps, but the park map is not really easy to understand. Not after a while I realized that the park was divided in two sections, and both were too far to make the travel walking. At the end, I never found the second section and I came back home only visiting 80% of the park. As my opinion the Official web page should specify address for both sections. Besides all the struggle I loved my visit through the park.

Jenkins Arboretum

What an arboretum is? For people that does not know what an arboretum could be, is a tree collection. When you think about a garden, you think about flowers and plants but when you think about arboretums you should think in trees and a lot of trees.

Since I started living in the United States I have visited some arboretums and gardens very important in the region, some of them with a great history.

My last vacations I visited Jenkins arboretum and I enjoyed it since the moment I joined into the parking lot. I had the sensation that I was getting into a forest, feeling in touch with the nature.

Jenkins arboretum its named after its first owners, H. Lawrence Jenkins and Elisabeth Phillippe Jenkins, given to them as a wedding gift in 1928 by Mr. Jenkins father.

Later it become in an arboretum and garden and in a living memorial to his wife, and then, a public park and arboretum for scientific and educational purposes.

The admission of the arboretum is free, also you can find a plant shop near the visitor center. Its a small arboretum compared to others, since the tour can last up to half an hour. Its opened everyday from 8:00am and I bet is a great place for kids.
